Firefighters’ pension scheme 2015 (as of 1st April 2015) This is the new firefighters’ pension scheme 2015 which has been "passed" by Parliament... It's a pdf document, 64 pages long. If you're specifically looking for details on tapering protection the table can be found on pages 61 to 64. You basically add this time on using 1st April 2015 as your starting point to see when your protection ends. (NB. The uk-fire.net calculator above does this for you also) From that point onwards you're automatically enrolled onto the new scheme. If you have accrued at least 25 years pensionable service and are over 50 years old, you can retire and collect your (old) pension and a REDUCED lump sum. If you decide to remain in service and retire when you're 55, you can add a reduced (new) pension to your pot. Each year after that you will accrue a bit more pension assuming you stay in the scheme and retire at the new government set age of 60.
All of this information (and lots more) can be found here...
Whichever way you dice it up, without full tapering protection or retention of the old scheme you can never acrue the maximum of 40/60 ths that many signed up for, even if you work till you're 60! You will see this by reading the second to last paragraph of the uk-fire pensions calculator, after calculating your projection, It tells you your maximum accrual in 60ths.
